Nemera is inventing the future of pharma

Nemera is the global leader the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry needs to design, manufacture and sell the drug delivery systems of today and tomorrow. It is also the company Dimitri Grasswill (Arts et Métiers ParisTech 99) needed to unleash his creativity and inventiveness as Innovation VP.

“Nemera” is formed of the Hebrew word “Nemer”, which means leopard, and the Greek word “Emera”, which means hope, life, renewal. A name that wasn’t chosen randomly when the company became independent of the Rexam group in 2014. A new life for this dynamic and efficient company.

“We put patients first” is Nemera’s motto

This global leader’s expertise in the development, industrialisation and production of drug delivery systems covers five administration methods: ophthalmic (multi-dose system without preservative), ENT (nasal spray pump, etc), pulmonary (asthma inhaler, etc), dermal and transdermal (distribution systems, etc) and parenteral (insulin pen, self-injectors, etc). “Our devices are protecting the active ingredient during the product’s shelf life, very accurately dosing the required quantity of medication, transferring the medication in accordance with the defined administration method and, above all, allowing simple and intuitive use of the system by the patient”, explains Dimitri Grasswill.

The patient is at the heart of everything Nemera does. “Although our customers are pharmaceutical laboratories, the patient remains at the core of our activities. Thanks to constantly improved ergonomics, the use of cutting-edge equipment and innovative technologies, we help to improve the lives of our patients”.

Innovation for better care

A purpose echoed by Dimitri Grasswill in his role as Innovation VP. “Inventing the solutions of the future is what gets me out of bed in the morning”, he says. The manager is also boosted by the endless power of a team. Notably “trying to simplify and streamline exchanges, decision-making, getting everyone’s ideas in line with our long-term vision and the challenges we set ourselves”.

His biggest challenge so far? “Combining our expertise in delivery systems with knowledge of the medical sector to anticipate the long-term needs of pharma laboratories and patients”. An example: “we are integrating electronics and connectivity in our systems to continuously improve safety and efficacy of treatments and ultimately the patient experience”.

All entrepreneurs

This innovation culture allows everyone at Nemera to undertake projects and achieve their ambitions… and sometimes to fail! “We believe that innovating is trying, failing, starting again and making progress. Our future success is built on our failures”. Dimitri Grasswill likes this entrepreneurial spirit. “When I started my career, I didn’t really know which profession to choose, all I wanted was to create and open my own business. At Nemera, we are a group of entrepreneurs who are passionate about our profession”.

Freedom to act, taking risks, trust, openness, dynamism, learning from mistakes, etc. Key values for Nemera and “great for young graduates” according to the Arts et Métiers Paristech graduate.

He remembers this state of mind from his studies at the engineering school. “Cohesion and pragmatism are strong values at this school which prepare us to work in the industry of today and tomorrow, resolutely focused on the human side of things”. Just like Nemera!
