World COPD Day: it’s always the right time to adress airways disease!
What is the COPD?
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a progressive disease that makes it hard to breathe. COPD develops slowly. Symptoms often worsen over time and can limit your ability to do routine activities.
This disease has no cure yet, and doctors do not know how to reverse the damage to the lungs. However, treatments and lifestyle changes can help you feel better, stay more active, and slow the progress of the disease.
What is the World COPD Day?
The first World COPD Day took place in 2002. Each year activities are planned by organizers in more than 50 countries worldwide, making the day one of the world’s most important COPD awareness and education events.
World COPD Day is organized by the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) in collaboration with health care professionals and COPD patient groups throughout the world. Its aim is to raise awareness about chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and improve COPD care throughout the world
This year, the theme of World COPD Day is “Never too early, Never too late”.
Each year GOLD chooses a theme which represents and coordinates preparation and distribution of World COPD Day materials and resources. World COPD Day activities are organized in each country by people who feels involved like health care professionals, educators, and members of the public who want to help reduce the burden of COPD.
This year, GOLD chooses the theme “Never too early, Never too late”. The organization wants to show people they do not have to wait to be worried about lung disease signs. “It is always the right time to adress airways disease” as GOLD said.
